In April 2022, I attended the inaugural SongCon in New York City led by Ari Herstand of Ari’s Take Academy and Danny Ross of the Antisocial Producers Club where I was 1 of a 100 songwriters selected from worldwide applications!
All the events and sessions offered by industry professionals were helpful and informative, and it was SO exciting to be in a room full of extremely talented songwriters from all over the world. Set against the backdrop of an ever-changing, ever-inspiring city, SongCon provided a warm and welcome space for creatives to come together to learn, grow, and make magic (wait till you hear some of the songs written during the conference that will be released!!)
It was nothing like any conference or music event I’d ever attended… in the best way possible. I am excited to keep in touch with these writers and support the work they do. It was a deeply impactful experience and I am so incredibly grateful to have been been a part of it.
Dutcher Snedeker had me on his Mitten Backstage Podcast the day after I performed my first concert of original music open to the public at Sound Check in Lowell, MI, on February 24, 2022. We’re old pals from our undergrad days at GVSU, and it has truly been a pleasure to watch him grow as a serious musician after graduation!
In this episode, you can hear us chat about:
-a reflection of the concert and how excited I am to have come this far
- how music helped me through my brain injury journey and the loss of my parents
- general musings about our classical training and the music industry today
- dreams I have about where to go from here
